Hungary?

I'm going to Budapest in February! I found a great deal on WizzAir...yeah, it sounds kinda odd, but it was cheap and will be another adventure :)
Have any suggestions of things I should see or do?

Two things (I was there last June):
1) Visit the baths/spa at Hotel Gellert-Gyogyfurdo. It was about $12 for several hours of relaxation in mineral baths, saunas, etc. Very nice. Check the hours before the go.
2) Walk the river area at night. Free! The sights are gorgeous.

Also, avoid the 'tourist menus.' This should be obvious, but in the restaurants/cafes near the river, you'll see menus that say 'tourist menu.' They are over-priced (duh.)

You totally rock! I remember laughing with you about going to Budapest but even though I was laughing, I seriously wanted to go for the sake of adventure.

I was never kidding about going to Budapest...I have wanted to go since I heard all about Scott D's adventures there during college.
I am working on the logistics and so far 3 things excite me--
1) the exchange rate is VERY favorable for us
2) I located a great apartment in the middle of the city that we will stay in for cheap
3) affordable Turkish Baths are there in abundance
A week of livin' it up in Eastern Euope will be a nice change from the 92' ;)

Bethany,
Beware of Turkish baths for women--even if they ARE in Budapest. Oh yeah, you have to see the castle facade. I was totally psyched to see a "castle", only to find out that it had no back to it really (or at least nothing I saw).

The Baths obviously - though it doesn't have to be Gellert; there's several other nice ones.

But I would also recommend the Yellow Zebra Bike Tour - it's around 20 euros I think, but it's well worth it on your first day or two to get oriented to the city and learn about the great Mygamar people.

We were recommended to do a boat tour and did so... if you've been on boat tours elsewhere, this one is probably in the bottom half and could be replaced by the already suggested nightwalk.

There's an opera house that has cheap tickets... we never quite made it there, but it might have been interesting.

And finally, there's Statue Park: you'll see so much advertising for this thing that you'd think it was an amusement park. Upon arriving, you'll find that it's just a bunch of old Communist statues overgrown a bit by weeds. Definitely worth going and you come to some startling realisations to how much the world has changed since the Cold War, but try not to get your expectations up to high or you'll be disappointed.

Yay exchange rate - though if you want a real imbalance you should take an overnight train up to Krakow... we ate a NICE meal for 3 euros each.

Anyway, just some of my thoughts on Budapest; we absolutely loved it (went in September). By the way, the Wizz lands you in the middle of nowhere, but you can get a really cheap bus ticket into town.

Glad you're feeding the travel habit... didn't realize you were going to get to go home; glad you did! We leave on Thursday and can hardly wait.

Merry Christmas!
