Quote of the week
overheard while watching Willy Wonka on "Charlie et le Chocolaterie" build a palace completely out of chocolate, my 6 year old friend Jenna exclaimed
"WOW, that is a good man!"
she knows what she is talking about...

I had three goals for my trip to Budapest-
1)buy a fur hat
2)find some interesting pottery
3)relax at the Turkish Baths and hot springs
the only one I really accomplished was #3 (we visited 3 different spas in fact)...but in my defense the only fur hats I came across were at the abandoned flea market for sale as antiques from the communist days, and the pottery we had heard about was no where to be found-- even though the Secret Box Man gave me detailed directions by repeating over and over that the shop was "on the corner"...
all in all the trip was a great adventure and a few highlights include: the fat Hungarian kid who incessantly kicked my airplane seat(the National Hungarian Fencing Team was also on our flight), the cute taxi driver who spoke very sparse English, the purple cape man, Burger King & T.G.I. Fridays (2 things we do NOT have in France), the communist bus ride, swimming outside while it was snowing, the lazy river, being yelled at by large Hungarian women, the 125 year old "traditional spa", the bidet lady, the escalator stopping, yummy goulash, lots and lots of snow...

Budapest, Hungary
"Despite spectacular development, Budapest has preserved its old charm and magic. It is a city where the pleasing harmony of different architectural styles and superb structures, the cafés, baths, the food and culture, combined with legendary hospitality blend into an unforgettable experience for visitors..."
I'm off to see some of this old charm and magic for myself (and to get another stamp in my passport!)...hopefully I will not freeze to death in the process.
Anyone speak Hungarian?
