July, Italy, 4 days

Yes, it is true...I have finally planned a trip to Italy! Though there is lots of work to be done here this summer, a friend and I have decided to set aside a few days for "a country of limitless opportunities. It offers a stage settings for all kinds of adventures..." -- Luigi Barzini. The plan is to take a train from Paris to Milan and from there go to Florence, Pisa, and Cinque Terra. So, this is where I need your help, since it seems that most everyone I know these days has travel experience in Italy...please share with me the insiders track on what to do, where to stay, logistic tips, cool places to eat...you get the idea. I am very very excited, yeah!!!

I would have been way more excited for you about this trip had it happened about a month ago when I was there... but I am still pumped for you.
All I have to say is eat as much food and drink as much wine as you can. . .within reason. It is all SOOO good.

My favorite smallish place is Sorrento. From there you can go to the Isle of Capri and visit the Blue Grotto...all very cool!

Cinque Terra: Do the trail, it's a pony trail (easy) and it is gorgeous. Spend a night in city 5 if you can, they always have parties in the town square around 11pm.

Florence: Uffizi, Academia (the David), and fake Louis Vuitton purses. If you want to walk up the duomo, go early in the morning, it'll get crowded in the afternoon.

Pisa is a 2/3 hour ordeal. Go there, walk down to the tower, take pictures and leave. We ate at a nice pizze place right next to the Tabbaci on the first street heading Right once you get off the train.

You sound like you're staying way north in italy... so enjoy the cheap chianti.

*If you go eat at restaurants, never touch the bread, it costs ~4Euro. Meaning if they bring it out, just don't touch it as they'll charge you. It's hard bread and is overpriced.

Yeay!! That's soo exciting beth! Looks like Vu's covered most of the highlights. I would especially like to recommend climbing the tower next to the Duomo. It's 6€, but the view is breathtaking (just don't wear flip flops).

I haven't been to the other cities, but I hear that Milan is very metropolitan and like New York in a lot of ways. Make sure you head to the monastery to see da Vinci’s ‘Last Supper.’ That’s one thing I wish I’d gotten to see. And besides the tower there’s not a whole lot to see/do in Pisa. Oh yeah – and eat tons of pizza and pasta’s!!

*My phone never really works well. So the term "work" is used VERY loosely.

That's all nice that you get to go to Italy, but WHEN ARE YOU COMING TO LONDON?!?
We can't wait to see you, so keep us posted. We might be through Paris for Bastille Day, so we might beat you to the punch.
You're welcome to stay at our place on our double-high air mattress if you let us know in time! You'll have to talk to that other guy about the Thai food - he's an amazing chef and scholar.
